We’re delighted to introduce you to The Quaich Company, our other online shop for handcrafted quaichs, flasks, tankards, goblets and other pewter pieces decorated with iconic Scottish designs. For anyone with a passion for Scotland or a Scottish connection, a handcrafted pewter quaich makes the perfect way to celebrate a special event, birthday, wedding or anniversary.
The Quaich Company story
Originally established in Glasgow over 50 years ago, the Quaich Company is now run by Wentworth Pewter, one of the last remaining pewtersmiths in Britain. Our skilled craftsmen are proud to keep the tradition of handcrafted Quaichs alive using techniques that have been around for hundreds of years. We’re honoured that they have been presented to four members of the Royal Family, King Olaf of the Norweigan Royal Family, Sean Connery, Scottish former World Champion snooker player, Stephen Hendry, MBE and the late Pavarotti.
The tradition of the Quaich
A symbol of love and kinship, the Quaich is the original whisky cup and one of the most treasured possessions of those with family links and associations with Scotland. It has been used through the centuries to offer a welcoming drink to friends and visitors at gatherings and to toast the bride at weddings. The distinctive two-handed design reflects trust on the part of both giver and receiver. Bonnie Prince Charlie and Sir Walter Scott are just some of the historic figures that have counted a Quaich amongst their prized possessions.
Whether the Quaich is used as a gift or a trophy, it’s a special vessel that reflects Scotland’s ancient heritage. Slàinte Mhath – good health!
