Joined Wentworth Pewter: 1969
Role: I’m a pewter polisher or hollowwarer as it’s known in the trade. Traditionally hollowware includes tableware gifts that are designed to last and it’s me that’s gives them their shine.
The craft: Pewter polishing is a skill that comes with time and practice, as you come to understand the metal, what works and what doesn’t. It takes a keen eye for detail to spot and remove every last blemish. Thirty years on and I’m still learning new and better ways to give a lustre to each product, in the way that you can only achieve with pewter.
The hallmark of Wentworth Pewter: We’re one of the last remaining, UK pewtersmiths producing handcrafted items. We export more than ever before. I like to think it’s because people around the world have come to recognise the uniqueness of our products and the craftsmanship behind every piece.
